Mazda6 vs. Lexus ES

  • When it comes to affordability, the Mazda6 has a much lower starting cost than the Lexus ES. In fact, if you were to upgrade to the apex trim from the Mazda6 lineup, you would still find better, more affordable value than the base trim from the Lexus lineup.
  • If you're looking for efficiency, the Lexus manages an impressive 33 mpg on the highway and 26 mpg in the city. The Mazda6 is able to offer numbers similar to the Lexus model around the Saint Augustine area with better numbers on the highway and in the city.
  • Not only will the Mazda sedan offer better mileage around the Gainesville area, but it also comes standard with a 16.4-gallon gas tank. The Lexus only manages to accommodate 15.9 gallons in its gas tank.
  • Both models offer impressive engine options to handle the daily commute or some weekend fun. While the Mazda6 does not offer a V6 option like the Lexus sedan, it does offer an option for a 2.5-liter turbocharged engine with 250 horsepower. The 310 pounds per feet of torque is more than the Lexus ES can offer with any engine option.
  • Both models offer seating for up to five passengers, but the Mazda6 offers more headroom for its front row passengers and more legroom room for its backseat passengers. They offer similar interior volumes, so you get the exact same space to stretch out in, no matter the sedan you pick.
  • The Mazda6 is a smaller sedan with a shorter length and width. This might not seem like a trait that's important but a smaller sedan allows for better maneuverability and ensures that those tight parking spots won't feel as tight. The Lexus might make it a bit more challenging.
  • Safety features are some of the most important aspects of buying a luxury sedan and both models don't disappoint with standard features like a built-in rearview camera and pedestrian detection. The Lexus offers a blind-spot monitoring system as an available feature but this comes standard on the Mazda6 for when you need it the most.
  • Comfort and luxury are never hard to find when you buy a sedan like the Lexus ES or the Mazda6. Both come standard with features like a dual-zone automatic climate control system and infotainment systems that come standard with eight-inch touchscreens. The Mazda6 takes it one step further by providing access to Android Auto™ and Apple CarPlay™ features. The Lexus comes standard with Apple CarPlay™ but does not offer Android Auto™ on any trim.
