Trim Levels
Mazda offers the CX-90 PHEV in 3 distinct trims—the Preferred, the Premium Sport, and the Premium Plus—each raising the bar in elegance and functionality.
The Preferred serves as a poised starting point, fitted with standard AWD, an expansive 12.3-inch digital display cluster, roof rails, a sunroof, heated mirrors, a power liftgate, and ambient leather upholstery in black or greige. It includes 6 USB-C ports (two per row), three-zone automatic climate with third-row vents, and 8-passenger seating via bench seats, with the option to replace the second-row bench with captain’s chairs for a 7-passenger layout.
Stepping up to Premium Sport, the CX-90 PHEV adopts a bolder persona with gloss-black honeycomb grille, black chrome wing and PHEV badging, 21-inch black-metallic wheels, and blacked-out lower bumpers and roof-rail accents. Inside, Mazda enriches the cabin with an Active Driving Display (head-up display), integrated navigation with off-road capability, a frameless auto-dimming rearview mirror with Homelink, upgraded LED lighting, 8-way power front seats including driver memory, Bose® 12-speaker audio, SiriusXM traffic and TravelLink, and a 1,500-watt rear charging outlet.
The Premium Plus trim elevates the experience with machine-cut 21-inch aluminum wheels, windshield-wiper deicer, power-folding auto-dimming side mirrors, and a refined 7-passenger interior featuring heated Nappa leather second-row captain’s chairs with walk-through access. Ventilated front seats, a heated steering wheel, heated second-row seats, and a rear 150-watt accessory outlet underscore its comfort credentials.

Powertrain
Every CX-90 PHEV is powered by Mazda’s e-Skyactiv plug-in hybrid system, combining a naturally aspirated 2.5-liter inline-4 engine with an electric motor backed by a 17.8 kWh battery. Premium fuel yields a total system output of 323 hp and 369 lb-ft torque. Power is transmitted through an 8-speed Skyactiv-Drive automatic and Mazda’s i-Activ AWD system.
Performance
The CX-90 PHEV commands attention with brisk acceleration and composure that belies its size. It delivers roughly 26 miles of electric-only range and a combined EPA figure of 56 MPGe (or 25 mpg on gasoline only). The PHEV’s 3,500-lb. towing capacity—when properly equipped—means that trailering is well within reach for life beyond the city limits. Mi-Drive offers selectable Sport, Off-Road, and EV modes, the latter enabling electric-only propulsion even at highway speeds.
Interior
From its sculpted exterior to the cabin’s serene craftsmanship, the CX-90 PHEV is unmistakably luxurious. Preferred trim starts the journey with comfortable leather seating and versatile 8-passenger capacity or a more intimate 7-passenger arrangement with captain’s chairs. Cargo space behind the third row measures up to 15.9 cu. ft., expanding to approximately 75.2 cu. ft. with the second and third rows folded; the 8-passenger configuration slightly reduces rear volume to around 14.9 cu. ft. and 74.2 cu. ft. respectively.
Premium Sport and Premium Plus enhance both aesthetics and comfort. Premium Plus especially elevates the experience with Nappa leather, heated and ventilated seating, ambient lighting touches, and thoughtful access and storage—like that rear 150-watt outlet and easy second-row captain’s chairs.

Technology
Mazda ensures its infotainment and connectivity match the vehicle’s premium status. A 12.3-inch touchscreen anchors Mazda Connect, providing wireless Apple CarPlay® and Android Auto™, wireless phone charging, 6 strategically placed USB-C ports, and Mazda Connected Services (trial included). Premium Sport also introduces a head-up Active Driving Display, navigation with off-road mapping, and additional lighting and mirror sophistication. Further, the inclusion of front and rear parking sensors across trims aids maneuvering, while the 1,500-watt outlet in select trims supports charging gear and entertaining on the go.
Safety Features
Safety is foundational. All trims benefit from Mazda’s i-Activsense suite: Mazda Radar Cruise Control with Stop & Go, Smart Brake Support, Blind Spot Monitoring with Vehicle Exit Warning, Rear Cross Traffic Alert, Lane Departure Warning with Lane-Keep Assist, Rear Seat Alert, Driver Attention Alert, and an immobilizer. The PHEV’s strong structural safety is reinforced by its Top Safety Pick+ standing.
