In addition to the MX-5 Miata’s widely praised soft-top design, the RF (standing for “Retractable Fastback”) model offers a sleek hardtop that opens and closes with the push of a button in less than 15 seconds. This gives the car extra rigidity and comfort during harsher weather or longer road trips. That’s all while delivering the outstanding performance that the roadster has become famous for. A Closer Look at the 2023 Mazda Miata RF

Powertrain

The Miata RF’s very low curb weight of under 2,500 pounds allows it to be powered by a smaller, yet extremely capable engine, which comes as the vaunted 2.0L Skyactiv-G inline-4 engine making 181 horsepower and 151 lb-ft of torque. That’s enough performance to get the car hustling from 0 to 60 in under six seconds. Grand Touring models offer a sporty 6-speed automatic transmission, but many are sure to gravitate towards the 6-speed manual.

Both of the Miata RF’s Club and Grand Touring trims come standard with a torque-sensing limited-slip differential that quickly adapts to changing conditions to maintain excellent traction.

Chassis

Every generation of the MX-5 has been the top buy for sports car enthusiasts since the vehicle was introduced more than 30 years ago. The new Miata RF is very much the same owing to its ideal 50/50 weight distribution and a sport-tuned fully independent suspension consisting of a double wishbone and Bilstein dampers up front and a multi-link setup with aluminum bearing support in the rear.

The MX-5 already offers amazing braking ability, but the Club’s Brembo/BBS Recaro Package makes it even better with Brembo front brakes. Steering is superb, enhancing the feeling of oneness with the car.

Interior

Though it’s a smaller vehicle, the MX-5 RF has a cockpit that can still accommodate taller occupants with its 36.8 inches of headroom and 43.1 inches of legroom. The simple, yet elegant interior is very driver focused, with every information display and control being within easy sight and reach. Buyers can opt for the Club’s lighter Recaro seats or the extra-luxurious Terracotta Nappa leather of the Grand Touring. Both choices come with three heat settings.

Combining the trunk with the covered storage compartment behind the seats, the car easily makes weekend getaways for two possible.

Infotainment System

A 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system that can also be controlled with the user-friendly Commander Control knob provides Android Auto/Apple CarPlay integration, Bluetooth hands-free phone accessibility and streaming audio, and SiriusXM satellite radio support. Dual USB audio ports and an auxiliary audio jack come standard for wired connections. Outstanding sound comes from the standard 9-speaker Bose audio system with AudioPilot technology.

After years of careful refinement, the MX-5 RF continues to best its rivals when it comes to delivering a thrilling driving experience at an affordable price. Head over to Tom Bush Mazda today and take it for a test drive!
