Besides offering their iconic MX-5 Miata with its classic soft-top, Mazda has also produced the RF, which stands for Retractable Fastback. This version of the roadster still provides the amazing handling that the Miata is famous for, but also gives buyers the option of a power-folding hardtop. Here’s your introduction to the 2022 Mazda MX-5 Miata RF!

Basics About the 2022 Mazda MX-5 Miata RF

Powertrain

The MX-5 RF’s sole powerplant is a naturally aspirated 2.0L Skyactiv-G inline-four engine. It’s always eager to hit those high revs while delivering its 181 horsepower and 151 lb-ft of torque to the rear wheels. Of course, you can expect its six-speed manual transmission to provide short, satisfying throws, but its available six-speed sport automatic transmission is no slouch, either. Acceleration is impressive, with the ability to go from 0 to 60 in under six seconds.
In addition to its thrilling performance, the MX-5 RF’s powertrain manages to stay fuel efficient at an EPA-rated 35 MPG highway for models equipped with the automatic transmission.

Chassis

With its near-perfect 50/50 weight distribution and refined suspension, the MX-5 is some of the most fun that you can have on four wheels. Its unibody achieves a low center of gravity, which is complemented by the extra rigidity from the RF’s hardtop. The sport-tuned suspension is fully independent and features an aluminum double wishbone, multi-link suspension, and available Bilstein dampers.
The result of the MX-5’s brilliant chassis design is a driving experience where you feel at one with the car. Along with making incredibly quick directional changes, the car quickly comes to a stop, especially with the available Brembo brakes.

Interior

Just about every aspect of the MX-5’s cockpit has been designed with the intention of maximizing driver ergonomics. For example, the steering wheel, gear shifter, and foot pedals have been carefully positioned, so that the driver can make adjustments with as little movement as possible. The well-bolstered seats provide excellent support and are available with three-level heating and Terracotta Nappa leather.
Despite being a two-seater, the MX-5 offers enough storage for a weekend getaway for two.

Infotainment

Both the Club and Grand Touring models come with a 7-inch infotainment touchscreen powered by Mazda Connect software. The responsive infotainment system can be accessed through intuitive voice commands and the Multifunction Commander control knob. Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, Bluetooth hands-free technology, dual USB ports, and HD Radio all come standard.

A Bose audio system pumps out crisp sound from nine speakers, including driver’s and passenger’s headrest-mounted speakers. Its AudioPilot technology lets you hear audio much more clearly by compensating for background noise.
