Now you’ve chosen your new Mazda, an important question is do you want to buy or lease a car? This is a question that has no right or wrong answer. Both choices are good, it just depends on which of the two options is the best for you. As your Mazda dealer, we’d like to give you more information on some things to consider when making your choice.

Advice From Your Mazda Dealer: Buy or Lease a Car? 3 Things To Consider

Do You Drive a Lot?

When you buy a car, you have no fixed limits on your mileage. Some drivers like to keep their mileage low to increase the value of their car when they trade it in. Other drivers regularly drive long distances for work or leisure activities. The only thing to consider is that high mileage can cause wear and tear, which reduces service intervals.

If you lease a car, you have a fixed mileage for the lease period. This mileage allowance is determined by dividing the number of months in the lease period by 12 and then multiplying the result by 15,000 to get a total mileage. If you choose a low mileage lease, you multiply the result by 12,000 rather than 15,000.

Is Ownership Important?

When you buy a car, you receive the car title and own it for as long as you want to. You can sell your car at any time. You can choose to gift it, donate it, or trade it in towards the cost of a new car. You can also use it as collateral for a loan.

When leasing a car, you retain the car for the length of the lease contract. This term can vary from two to five years, depending on the agreement. When the contract nears its end, you can extend the contract, choose a newer model Mazda, or buy your previously leased car.

Is Customization Important?

When you buy a new Mazda, you can choose all its features from the ground up. Your dealership or the online ordering tool will assist you to choose everything from color to wheel type to the interior comfort features. Your only limit is how much you want to spend.

When you lease a car, your choices are more limited. You’ll get the model you want, but you might not get every feature as the car has already been built. The cheaper cost of lease payments compared to loan repayments does mean you can choose a higher trim level than you might otherwise be able to buy.
